Hi & thanks for visiting!

My name is David Preston and I have loved learning my whole life.  In 1992 I began teaching at universities and graduate institutes and consulting on learning and organizational development issues for companies, nonprofits and government agencies.  For the past 12 years I have also taught English for students in grades 9-12 at America’s fourth largest high school (in Los Angeles) and at comprehensive high schools on California’s central coast.

My adventures in learning have created a variety of opportunities.  My students get to connect with mentors, thought leaders, and newsmakers (as of this writing, our most recent chat was with Senator Daylin Leach of “shitgibbon” fame).  Learners have used open source principles & tools to create: an international microfinance operation, a hackspace, a venture incubator, an online art dealership, a P2P digital consulting practice, a game lab, an international digital research partnership, and an emerging community of alumni and friends designed to evolve into a massively multiplayer open source learning environment that translates knowledge capital directly to the marketplace.

Apart from being a Dad and enjoying my day job, I have been honored to share what I’ve learned with audiences at TEDxUCLA, the O’Reilly Open Source Convention, the MacArthur Foundation’s Digital Media & Learning Conference, the Royal Geographic Society, and other conferences and organizations.  I love supporting the work of learners wherever they may be, so please feel free to contact me if you would like me to speak to an audience, or design a hands-on program your group can implement, or teach/train professionals.  I look forward to meeting you!
